The Black Bull Inn and HotelThe Black Bull Inn and Hotel was built around 400 years ago as a coaching Inn providing accommodation for travellers, coachmen and horses. The Inn is situated in the picturesque village of Coniston, beside the beck and in the shadow of the ‘Old Man’ mountain.
We have 11 comfortable bedrooms each with bath or shower en-suite, colour TV, tea/coffee making facilities, hair-dryer, full central heating and double glazing. The character of the rooms and inn has however still been retained. We serve a range of light snacks and hearty dishes to accompany our vast range of on-site brewed ales The most recent addition to our hostelry is a microbrewery Coniston Brewery, in which we brew our own beer, Bluebird Bitter and Old Man Ale. These are made using only the finest natural ingredients available and our local mountain water. The beer is cask conditioned before being sold to our discerning customers in the bar. |

foodThe Black Bull offers a whole variety of food choices so there is something to suit every taste. We offer a comprehensive general menu, and we are very proud of our Daily Specials Board, which will usually have soup, light snacks such as Eggs Benedict, Moules Mariniers, or Sauted Mushroom Rarebit to name but a few. There will also be a fresh Catch of the Day with fish delivered that morning, a hearty meat dish - and also two vegetarian dishes.
Our chefs, wherever possible, use fresh locally sourced ingredients. All meats are cooked on the premises and dishes are prepared to order by hand. Meals can be eaten in our Bar area and in our adjoining Dining Room, just off the Bar from 12 noon until 9pm all day. We also have our main Dining Room, which opens at 6pm each evening for those who prefer a quieter venue. This can be booked for large private parties (up to 40) or just a table for 2. Our smaller Dining Room may also be booked for private parties (up to 20) or again as individual tables. We are open each day for breakfast, with non residents welcome - morning coffee, snacks, lunches, afternoon tea and evening meals. Set menus for parties or special dietary dishes can be arranged upon request. |
